How to make a Weekend Adventure Jar

How to make a Weekend Adventure Jar

Do you ever get stuck with what to do at the weekends? Too much choice? Maybe your head’s too frazzled from a stressful week at work and you’re just concentrating on trying to keep calm and cheery for the kids… It’s not always easy is it? This happens to us all the time. Wednesday night arrives and we start to think of what we could do at the weekend. We’re just happy the weekend’s in view, never mind trying to focus on gathering the energy to pack for whatever it is we eventually decide to do. Tired of waving bye to Wednesdays and then panicking somewhat on Saturdays, we’ve decided to:

‘Let the adventure jar decide’

Oh yes. The adventure jar. We’ve always had a to-do list of mountains we’d like to take our son up, river canoe trips, campervan slouchy weekenders but we’ve rolled up our sleeves and have now taken action to avoid another season roll on by… I’ve never known us to be so decisive! Should be interesting. We even colour coded the adventures (green for overnight wild camping ideas/ orange for canoe trips/ white for longer multi day treks…you get the idea) Anyway, it should keep us busy for the next few years!

How to make your own adventure jar:

  1. Get an empty jar. We used an old one that we bought online last year that was perfect for the job.
  2. Write lists on different coloured paper of fun days out, mini adventures, picnic spots, etc etc.
  3. Cut out list.
  4. Fold up each ‘adventure’ in to four.
  5. Pop in to jar, shake about and when the time is right…..
  6. Let the adventure jar decide what you get up to!

An easy, somewhat spontaneous and exciting way to spend our time together, having mini adventures, learning new things and going to new places. We’re excited about it, and will keep you updated as to how it’s going.

***Please note: This is a blog that was previously published on another of our blogs Adventurous Little Legs, and linked to an online store we also had. We have closed these both down. All content and pictures remain those of Stacey and Keith at Adventurous Little Legs and An Outdoors Family
