Lago Bermejales is a reservoir in southern Spain about 35 km south of Granada. It is a great place to spend a day or so, with a large sandy beach near the dam end of the reservoir and several good cafes and restaurants in the area. The lake is surrounded by pine trees, providing shade if needed and there are many opportunities for activities such as walking on the shore line, swimming in the lake, hiring canoes or pedalos or just chilling and enjoying the spectacular bright blue lake and woods surrounding it.
We highly recommend El Cruce restaurant/bar on the main cross roads near the dam as a great place for a relaxed lunch – the menu del dia was great value and very tasty.
If you are in southern Spain, and want to get off the tourist trail, Lago Bermejales offers a fantastic antidote to busy tourist resorts, with few people there during the weeks, and mainly locals visiting during the weekends.
Our other top tips for things to do in the surrounding area include visiting the Sierra Nevada mountains, exploring Alhama de Granada, walking a gorge and going underground at the Nerja caves.
