I have been testing out the Seawater Waterproof Jacket from Trespass* over the past few weeks and found that it has lot to offer for a lightweight waterproof jacket for this time of year.
First thing’s first though, let’s talk about the features of this Womens Lightweight Waterproof Jacket with Hood:
- Waterproof rating – 3000mm
- Breathability rating – 3000mvp
- Grown on Hood
- Striped Jersey Lining
- 2 Decorative Faux Pockets on the Front
- 2 Zip Pockets
- Inner Storm Flap
I’m usually a bit sceptical about lightweight waterproof jackets, apparently preferring an either all or nothing approach to my coats. Can a lightweight jacket really be waterproof? At this time of year, my main coat is a non-waterproof coat that has seen me soaked through on many unexpectedly rainy walks with the kids a few times. My other coats are either winter fully insulated coats or waterproof coats that I feel are perfect for cold dry days or rainy days up in the hills.
So I was interested to review this jacket and see what it had to offer.
The weather has been perfect for thoroughly testing it and seeing what it could be put through.
What did I like about it?
First off, on their website, Trespass has a huge range of bright colours to chose from which made picking one a tricky choice! I decided on a bright red one in the end.
I always feel the cold so thought I’d have to put extra layers on under the coat but as it turned out, thanks to the jersey lining, I didn’t really have to worry.
I went on many walks with the kids through the woods, to the park, to the shops and general other outdoorsy shenanigans, come rain or shine. I think it works really well as a lightweight waterproof jacket. I did have to stand in the pouring rain waiting for my eldest to finish at an outdoors activity centre and while it was only about 15 minutes or so, I could feel the rain begin to soak through to my shoulders. Given the waterproof rating though and how heavy the rain was, I wasn’t too surprised.
Another advantage is that it is machine washable which is worth its weight in gold for me at the moment! Our 2yo has stopped his naps and while he enjoys jumping in all the puddles and playing in the mud, he also tires quickly and likes to have a little cuddle! I can’t let a small thing like dirt get in the way of those cuddles, so the possibility of throwing the coats in the wash is another reason to like this coat!
Anything I didn’t like?
If I had to suggest anything, it would be more pockets, but that is just my personal preference. While there are 2 big front pockets with a side zip, I prefer big bucket type pockets, knowing that car keys, phone, kids gloves and anything else we need for a quick trip outside will stay safe in there with easy access to it and without a risk of anything falling out. Like I said though, it’s totally a personal preference.
This lightweight waterproof jacket ticked a lot of boxes and I’ve been really impressed with it. In my honest opinion, this is a perfect lightweight waterproof jacket for this time of year, when the weather’s beginning to get chillier and you’re needing a coat but showers are few and far between.
*I have been gifted this jacket by Trespass in exchange for this review, though the opinions here are my own.
