Viking Extreme Boots Review

We bought our son a pair of Viking Extreme boots last year in preparation for his first Scottish winter and we definitely didn’t want to put a downer on snow funtime! Well, the snow just didn’t happen but that didn’t stop him from putting the boots well and truly to the test!

We’ve put together some pros and cons we’ve found with the boots.

PROS:

The Extreme boots are very sturdy compared to other standard welly boots and the chunky sole has excellent wear and non slip properties.
It has a ‘storm cuff’ fabric top to close the boot against the leg to minimise rainwater leaking in.
They are incredibly light given the sturdiness of the feel.
They are fleece lined, and also have a removable insole so easy to dry or increase size if wearing thick socks.
The rubber material stays flexible to -20c so there’s no cracking boots in the cold (not that we’ve tried them in that temperature!)
There’s a handy name tag in there too.
They are available in small sizes (UK 4.5) so handy if your little ones are ready to adventure from a really early age!

CONS:

They can perhaps be a bit too well insulated though this depends on what your child is using them for. Our son has another lighter pair of everyday welly boots that he takes to nursery for waterplay and keeps the Viking Extremes for his canoeing and mountain adventures.
They’re not the cheapest boots on the market at £38.

OUR VERDICT: Our son is incredibly comfortable wearing these boots. We noticed almost immediately the difference in the distance he was able to walk when wearing them, compared to his other standard welly boots. Having said they’re not the cheapest boots on the market, we feel they are definitely worth the money. He’s walking on rocky, tough mountain paths and not complaining about feeling the stones through the sole. Last month, he walked over 4 miles wearing them and it was only on the way back that he’d had enough, and this was only because he was so tired. Not bad for the boots or the two year old wearing them!
